The best books on channeling are Seth Speaks for a clear channeled philosophy, The Law of One for a deep cosmic framework, and Conversations with God for the most widely read modern example. Bashar: Blueprint for Change is the place to start if Darryl Anka’s work called you here.
Below are 13 books in three groups: classic channeled works, modern channeled teachings, and guides to how channeling works. Channeling is a spiritual practice, not a proven science, so each entry says plainly what the book is and what to keep an open mind about.
Key Takeaways
- Start with Seth Speaks or Conversations with God. Both are readable, widely loved and a good first taste of channeled writing.
- For Bashar, read Blueprint for Change. It is the book by Darryl Anka with Luana Ewing, and pairs well with the film First Contact: Channeling Bashar. Alex Ferrari helped make the film as post-production supervisor, colorist and online editor.
- The classics shaped everything after them. The Spirits’ Book, A Course in Miracles and the Ra Material are the roots of modern channeled literature.
- Want to understand the practice itself? Opening to Channel and Jon Klimo’s Channeling explain how it works and how to approach it with discernment.
- Prefer to listen? Five of the people behind these books have been guests on our podcast, linked below.
What Is Channeling?
Channeling is the practice of receiving information that the channeler says comes from a source beyond their ordinary mind, such as a spirit guide, a higher self, or a non-physical or extraterrestrial intelligence. The channeler may speak, write or enter a trance while the message comes through.
Skeptics see imagination or the subconscious at work. Many people find the messages meaningful whatever their source, and a good book lets you judge by the ideas themselves. For a wider look, see our guide to channelers and mediums, and for the history of one famous voice, our Darryl Anka and Bashar guide.

Classic Channeled Works
Four books that shaped modern spiritual literature. Each is long-lived and still widely read.
1. The Spirits’ Book
Allan Kardec (US Spiritist Council, 2024 edition)
Published in 1857, this is the founding text of Spiritism. Kardec, a French educator, asked questions of spirits through several mediums and compiled their replies on God, the soul, reincarnation and life after death.
It is a question and answer book, formal and sometimes dated, but its influence is large, especially in Brazil. See our Spirits’ Book study guide.
Best for: Readers who want the roots of Spiritism.
2. Seth Speaks
Jane Roberts (New World Library, 1994 edition)
Jane Roberts entered trance and spoke as Seth, who describes consciousness, reincarnation, and how our beliefs shape our reality. Her husband, Robert Butts, recorded the sessions.
Clear, patient and often ahead of its time, it is a fine first channeled book. See our Jane Roberts and Seth guide and the Seth Material.
Best for: Readers who like calm, systematic philosophy.
3. A Course in Miracles
Helen Schucman (Ixia Press, 2019 edition)
Psychologist Helen Schucman said an inner voice dictated this text, which she wrote down between 1965 and 1972 with help from her colleague William Thetford. It was first published in 1976.
It is a self-study course in forgiveness and mind training, with a text, workbook for students and manual for teachers. Note that this edition is not the one from the Foundation for Inner Peace, so check which edition your study group uses.
Best for: Readers ready for a long, daily practice.
4. The Ra Material (The Law of One, Book I)
Don Elkins, Carla Rueckert and Jim McCarty (Whitford Press, 1984)
Between 1981 and 1984, Elkins, Rueckert and McCarty held sessions in which Rueckert channeled Ra, who described unity, densities of consciousness and the path of service. The transcripts became the Law of One series.
Dense and cosmic, it rewards slow reading. Jim McCarty, the last surviving member of the team, joined us to talk about Ra.
Best for: Readers who want a big-picture cosmology.
Modern Channeled Teachings
Six books from channelers whose work reached a wide audience from the 1990s onward.
5. Bashar: Blueprint for Change
Darryl Anka with Luana Ewing (New Solutions Publishing, 1990)
Bashar is the extraterrestrial consciousness Darryl Anka says he channels. This book gathers teachings on reality creation, following excitement and choosing positive beliefs, edited with Luana Ewing.
The paperback can be pricey and hard to find. If you want the story behind the voice, watch First Contact: Channeling Bashar. Alex Ferrari helped make the film as post-production supervisor, colorist and online editor. See also who is Bashar and the Bashar formula.
Best for: Readers who want practical, positive tools.
6. Conversations with God, Book 1
Neale Donald Walsch (G. P. Putnam’s Sons, 1996)
Walsch wrote a letter in anger to God and says he heard an answer, which he took down as a dialogue. The book became a bestseller and a series.
Warm and plain, with big ideas on love, fear and the nature of God. Walsch spoke with us about purpose in hard times. See also our conversations with Neale Donald Walsch page.
Best for: First-time readers of channeled writing.

7. Ask and It Is Given
Esther and Jerry Hicks (Hay House, 2004)
Esther Hicks says she channels a group called Abraham. The book teaches the law of attraction, with 22 processes for working with your emotions and desires.
Popular and cheerful. Some readers find the focus on getting what you want one-sided, so read it with the rest of your life in view.
Best for: Readers drawn to law of attraction teachings.
8. I Am the Word
Paul Selig (Tarcher, 2010)
Selig, a New York channeler, writes in a trance state with guides who speak as a group. The book is a series of transmissions on awakening to the truth of who you are, written to be read with intention.
Dense and meditative, best read a little at a time. Selig explained channeling to us in his own words.
Best for: Readers who want a contemplative, daily practice.
9. The Twelve Layers of DNA
Lee Carroll and Elan Dubro-Cohen (Platinum Publishing House, 2010)
Lee Carroll says he channels Kryon, a magnetic master who speaks on changes in the Earth and in human consciousness. This volume gathers the Kryon teaching on DNA, with an esoteric study of what the authors call the mastery within.
It is hopeful in tone and best read slowly. Carroll and Monika Muranyi joined us to share Kryon’s message about humanity’s path forward.
Best for: Readers who like hopeful, earth-centered messages.
10. Bringers of the Dawn
Barbara Marciniak (Bear & Company, 1992)
Marciniak says she channels the Pleiadians, who speak about human origins, freedom and the nature of reality. It was a landmark book in the starseed community.
Bold and provocative. Treat its cosmic history as a story to explore, not established fact. See our starseed guide.
Best for: Readers curious about Pleiadian teachings.
Learning How Channeling Works
Two books for readers who want to understand the practice itself, with an open mind and healthy discernment.
11. You Are a Channel
Sara Landon (Hay House, 2024)
Landon teaches that channeling is a skill many people can learn, and walks readers through receiving guidance from higher realms, ascended masters and star families. It is practical, with steps for opening, receiving and checking what comes through.
Landon has joined us on the show to talk about connecting with your angels and guides.
Best for: Readers who want a modern, step-by-step start in channeling.
12. Opening to Channel
Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer (H J Kramer, 1993 listing)
Roman and Packer offer a step-by-step approach to meeting a spirit guide and learning to receive guidance, with exercises you can try.
Practical and encouraging. Take it slowly, stay grounded, and keep your own judgment at the center.
Best for: Readers who want to try channeling themselves.
13. Channeling: Investigations on Receiving Information from Paranormal Sources
Jon Klimo (TarcherPerigee, 1987)
Klimo, a psychologist, surveys channeling across history and cultures and weighs the explanations, from spirits to the subconscious. He takes the question seriously without taking sides too quickly.
Long and thorough, with the balance missing from many channeling books. A strong choice if you want to judge for yourself.
Best for: Skeptical and curious readers.
An Honest View of Channeling
No one has proven that channeling reaches a source outside the mind. Researchers and skeptics offer other explanations, such as imagination, the subconscious or the expectation of the audience. Some channeled books also contain claims about history, science and health that are not supported by evidence.
Read these books as spiritual literature. Take what rings true, test it against your own life, and be careful with anyone who asks for money in exchange for answers about your future.
