Meditation

Meditation is the practice of training attention to find stillness, clarity and calm. Here you will find our beginner guide, a Mastery teacher, and conversations with monks, scientists and teachers who bring it into daily life. Start small and let the practice grow at your pace.

Meditation is a practice of turning attention inward, often by focusing on the breath, a sound or a phrase, until the mind settles. People use it to reduce stress, sleep better and feel more present. You do not need to stop your thoughts. You only need to keep returning.

FAQ

Meditation Questions, Answered

Quick, plain answers to what people ask most.

What is meditation?

Meditation is a practice of training attention, usually by focusing on the breath, a sound or a phrase. The goal is not an empty mind. It is a steadier, kinder relationship with whatever arises.

How do I start meditating?

Sit comfortably, close your eyes and follow your breath for five minutes. When your mind wanders, gently return. Our meditation guide for beginners walks you through it.

How long should I meditate?

Start with five to ten minutes daily. Consistency matters more than length, and you can build up when it feels natural.

Am I doing it wrong if my mind keeps wandering?

No. Noticing that your mind wandered and returning is the practice itself. Emily Fletcher and Gelong Thubten both speak about this in their conversations.

Is guided or silent meditation better?

Guided meditation is a gentle way to begin, and silent practice can come later. Try both. Our guided meditation for anxiety is a good place to start.

Can meditation help with stress and sleep?

Many people find it helps them feel calmer and rest better. It is a supportive practice, not a replacement for medical care.

Is meditation religious?

It grows out of many traditions, and people practice it with or without a faith. Acharya Shunya teaches meditation from the Vedic tradition in her free masterclass.
