Samadhi is a Sanskrit word for a state of deep meditative absorption in which the sense of a separate self fades. In yoga it is the final of the eight limbs described by Patanjali. Traditions describe it as profound stillness, unity, and clarity.
Why It Matters
It names the goal many meditators are quietly heading toward. Knowing the word makes yoga and Vedanta texts easier to follow.
