Smudging is the sacred practice of burning herbs such as sage or cedar and moving the smoke around a person or space to cleanse, bless, and clear energy. It is rooted in some Indigenous traditions of the Americas.
Why It Matters
Many seekers use smoke cleansing to reset a room or mark a new beginning, setting an intention as the smoke rises. Because the practice comes from living Indigenous ceremonies, it is best approached with respect, with learning about its origins, and with sustainably sourced herbs. White sage in particular has been over-harvested.
